Suji Sheera or Rawa Sheera

by Arpit, Published: September 01, 2011

Suji (Rawa) Sheera is one of my alltime favourite when it comes to any small or big festivals or pooja at home. Thanks to my wife and a little daughter who loves them like anything.

In Gujarat, Suji Sheera is traditionally served as a Prasad during Satyanarayana Pooja along with Fruits and Crushed Groundnuts with Sugar. Suji Sheera is also served as a traditional sweet dish in most of the Gujarati Houses.

Today, its Ganesh Chaturthi and I should not stop myself to share this recipe with you.

Soaking time: 15 mins
Prep time: 5 mins
Cook time: 20 mins
Total time: 40 mins
Yield: Makes 4 plates

Ingredients:
1/3 cup ghee (घी)
1 cup semolina (रवा)
1/2 cup warm milk (दूध)
1 cup sugar (चीनी)
1 tbsp chopped raisins (कीसमीस)
1 tbsp chopped cashewnuts (काजु)
1/2 tsp cardamom powder (एलाइची पावडर)

Method :

1. Heat the ghee in a kadhai, add the semolina and sauté on a slow flame for 5 to 7 minutes. Keep aside.
2. Add the milk, sugar and 1/2 cup of warm water, mix well and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring continuously.
3. Add the raisins, cashewnuts and cardamom, mix well and cook on a slow flame till all the liquid evaporates and the sheera leaves the sides of the kadhai, stirring once in between.
4. Place equal quantites of sheera on 4 plates and serve immediately.
