Khajur Imli ki Chutney also known as meetha chutney, khatta meetha chutney, sweet chutney, dates and tamarind chutney, is widely used in Indian Chaats.

What is Khajur Imli Ki Chutney?

Khajur Imli ki chutney is a sweet and tangy condiment or chutney widely used in most of the Indian Chaats. It is made with Seedless Dates, Jaggery and Tamarind.

Usage of Khajur Imli Ki Chutney

It is used in most Indian Chaat Recipes like Bhel Puri, Sev Puri, papdi chaat and ragda pattice and many others. Indian chaat is incomplete without the accompaniment of Meetha Chutney. The sweetness to the chaat comes from dates and tamarind chutney, it balances the spice, which results in Chaat to be sweet and spicy.

Deep fried Indian snacks like Pakoda, Samosa, Batata Vada uses this famous Mumbai Roadside Imli Ki Meethi Chutney as a dip. Our Imli Ki Chutney is easy and quick to make as we have used Deseeded Dates and tamarind pulp and then either simmer it on slow flame or pressure cooked it.

Shelf life of Khajur Imli ki Chutney

We even get ready made chutney’s in the market but the home-made Imli Khajur ki chutney tastes excellent!! So make it at home and you can store it in an air-tight container in the refrigerator, and freeze it.

The Meetha Chutney stays for 3 months.

Recipe with Step by Step Picture

  • To make khajur imli ki chutney, try to take deeseded dates (khajur). Wash them properly. Take Imli Pulp if possible, in my recipe I took Tamarind pulp. If you don’t have tamarind pulp, I suggest to soak tamarind in hot water for 15-20 mins, this will make it easier for you to handle.
  • Once the basic preparation is completed, Combine the dates and tamarind along with 1½ cups of water in a saucepan and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Cool slightly and blend in a mixer or hand blender to a smooth paste and strain the mixture using a sieve.
  • Consistency should look like below after blending.
  • Transfer blended Khajur Imli ki Chutney mixture in a serving bowl or storage bowl. Add Chilli Powder, Cumin Powder and Salt to the mixture.
  • Your Khajur Imli Ki Chutney is ready.
  • Use the Khajur Imli ki Chutney as required or store refrigerated.
